Graphite Disk

Advanced Rupture Disk’s graphite disk technology incorporates the compounds’ natural abilities to be strong under compression and relatively weak under tension. These properties provide industry with the ideal material from which to manufacture bursting disks.

Advanced Rupture Disk’s graphite bursting disks are manufactured from a resin impregnated electrographite. Our line is designed for use on a variety of pressure applications and offers our customers yet another Advanced Rupture Disk advancement in choices for bursting disks.

Graphite disks by Advanced Rupture Disk can be utilized in a multitude of applications. They are highly corrosion resistant, are non-contaminating, impervious and thermal shock resistant. The Advanced Rupture Disk graphite products are particularly suited to uses where a high degree of corrosion resistance and inertness is required. These applications would include: alkalis, acids, and numerous types of solvents.

Petrochemical and fine chemical production facilities are a prime user of Advanced Rupture Disk’s products. When additional corrosion protection is required a fluoropolymer liner can be attached to one or both sides of the bursting disk.

When you need a 0% manufacturing range in graphite bursting disks it is the graphite products from Advanced Rupture Disk that can fulfill the need. All standard graphite disks are produced with 0% manufacturing range and are suitable for use in static applications with normal operating pressures up to 90% of rated burst pressure. For good service life in cycling service, the normal operating pressure to rated burst pressure ratio should be lower.

The burst pressure tolerance for the graphite disk is +/- 5% of the requested burst pressure rating above 15 psig. and +/- 0.75 psig of the requested burst pressure rating 15 psig and below. The maximum coincident temperature of the graphite disk is 325o F.

For all disks rated 25 psig and below, that are required to withstand vacuum, a separate vacuum support must be installed into the recess of the bursting disk. The vacuum support must be ordered at the same time as the disk; it will have a reduced venting capacity and cannot be supplied with a protective fluoropolymer liner on the process side.

Graphite disks are designed to bolt between standard ANSI pipe flanges and fit within the bolt circle. As an optional item OSECO can provide gaskets for use in the graphite bursting disks.

Advanced Rupture Disk graphite disks are available with an optional metal armor ring. The metal armor ring provides an added safety feature and also helps to protect the disk from excessive or uneven torquing. Standard armor ring material is carbon steel with stainless steel as an optional item.

For each lot of graphite disks Advanced Rupture Disk Technology can provide, at no additional charge, a burst test certificate. ASME burst test certificates are supplied on a special order basis for an additional cost. An Impermeability Test Certificate can also be provided confirming that all disks supplied have been subject to an impermeability test insuring that there is no residual porosity. Advanced Rupture Disk feels that this is a most important test as it proves the integrity of the material from the impregnation process that each and every disk undergoes.
