VAPRO & POSIPRO Rupture Disks

The OSECO VAPRO and POSIPRO rupture disks are economical alternatives for applications requiring extremely low positive pressure protection. The VAPRO and POSIPRO rupture disks are designed to provide protection for pressures starting as low as 1” of water column. The VAPRO rupture disk protects against implosion of a vessel, and the POSIPRO rupture disk protects against overpressure.

VAPRO Rupture Disk
The VAPRO rupture disk is a dual acting disk that can protect from implosion at extremely low pressure and can also provide protection from overpressure conditions. The VAPRO rupture disk consists of a perforated 316 stainless steel top section, a Teflon seal, and a Teflon or 316 stainless steel girdle. If the VAPRO rupture disk is never subject to any positive pressure a 316 stainless steel support ring can be provided in place of the perforated metal top section.

VAPRO Holder
The VAPRO rupture disk is used with either the type VRDI or VRDS rupture disk holder (see above photo). The VRDI holder is a reduced diameter insert type holder and is designed to bolt between and fit within the bolt circle of standard ANSI pipe flanges. The VRDS rupture disk holder is a sanitary style holder and is designed to be used with sanitary quick-release clamps. Standard materials for the VRDI and VRDS are carbon steel and 316 stainless steel . Precision knifeblades are welded in the inlet of the holder. Standard knifeblade material is 17-7 PH and 300 series stainless steel as an option.

How The VAPRO Works
The VAPRO operates over a range of 6 inches of water column in the vacuum direction. As a vacuum or negative pressure is pulled the girdle and seal reverse. The girdle passes the knifeblades and the seal is punctured and opened within a maximum of 6 inches of water column of the stamped minimum vacuum pressure. The perforated metal top section remains unaltered and flow through the perforations relieves the vacuum condition. Systems can operate to within 1 inch of water column of the minimum requested puncture pressure up to 10 inches of water column, and up to 90% of the minimum requested puncture pressure above 10 inches of water column.

When overpressure occurs the perforated metal top section relieves in the forward direction. Systems can operate to within 80% of the stamped positive pressure of the VAPRO rupture disk. The rupture tolerance for the perforated metal top section is plus or minus 2 psig for pressures 40 psig and lower, and plus or minus 5% for pressures greater than 40 psig.

POSIPRO Rupture Disk
The POSIPRO rupture disk is a dual acting disk that can protect from extremely low overpressure conditions and can also provide protection from vacuum. The POSIPRO rupture disk consists of a Teflon or 316 stainless steel girdle, a Teflon seal, and a 316 stainless steel perforated vacuum support. If the POSIPRO rupture disk is never subject to any vacuum pressure a 316 stainless steel support ring can be provided in place of the perforated metal vacuum support.

POSIPRO Holder
The POSIPRO rupture disk is used with either the type POSI or POSS rupture disk holder. The POSI holder is a reduced diameter insert type holder and is designed to bolt between and fit within the bolt circle of standard ANSI pipe flanges. The POSS rupture disk holder is a sanitary style holder and is designed to be used with sanitary quick-release clamps. Standard materials for the POSI and POSS are carbon steel and 316 stainless steel. Precision knifeblades are welded in the outlet of the holder. Standard knifeblade material is 17-7 PH and 300 series stainless steel as an option.

How The POSIPRO Works
The POSIPRO operates over a range of 6 inches of water column in the positive direction. As a positive pressure occurs the girdle and seal reverse. The girdle passes the knifeblades and the seal is punctured and opened within a maximum of 6 inches of water column of the stamped minimum positive pressure. The perforated metal vacuum support remains unaltered and flow through the perforations relieves the overpressure condition. Systems can operate to within 1 inch of water column of the minimum requested puncture pressure up to 10 inches of water column, and up to 90% of the minimum requested puncture pressure above 10 inches of water column.

When vacuum occurs the perforated metal vacuum support can be designed to relieve in the vacuum direction, or can be designed to withstand full vacuum. Systems can operate to within 80% of the stamped vacuum pressure of the POSIPRO rupture disk. The rupture tolerance for the perforated metal vacuum support is plus or minus 2 psig for pressures 40 psig and lower, and plus or minus 5% for pressures greater than 40 psig.

Burst Disk Alarm Sensors
The OSECO type LPSS and LPSF burst disk alarm sensors provide an immediate signal when a VAPRO or POSIPRO rupture disk has burst to relieve a vacuum or overpressure condition. Upon rupture of the bursting disk, the disk alarm circuit is opened by the flowing media. The LPSS and LPSF burst disk sensors are designed to open at pressure differential of 3 inches of water column or less. Both the LPSF and LPSS sensors are designed to be installed downstream of the VAPRO or POSIPRO rupture disk. The LPSF sensor bolts between raise faced ANSI pipe flanges. The LPSS sensor is designed to be used with sanitary quick-release clamps.
