Flare Systems

A flare stack refers to an elevated vertical stack used for burning off unusable waste gas in a variety of oil and gas production applications. Waste gases are either uneconomical to recover/retain, or released during planned or unplanned over-pressuring of plant equipment. Waste gases are released to the flare via piping (flare header) and burned as they exit the flare stack.

Tornado manufactures two general families of flare systems: Utility Flares and Engineered Smokeless Flares.

Incinerators

An incinerator or thermal oxidizer provides the ultimate in destruction efficiency. An incinerator is a fired appliance used to oxidize potentially dangerous hydrocarbons (including BTEX’s) and sulfur compounds from oil and gas production processes. Designed with precise calculations, incinerators achieve in excess of 99.9% Destruction Removal Efficiency (DRE). An incinerator uses an active control system to ensure that the design parameters affecting efficiency and equipment safe operation are maintained at all times during its operation.

Enclosed Burners

Enclosed burners are a cost effective alternative to full-blown incinerators, primarily used in applications where the potential for complaints exist from the surrounding community. They can handle a wide range of process conditions, turndowns, and even entrained condensates.

Detonation and Flame Arrestors

Flame/Detonation Arrestors are passive safety devices designed to prevent the propagation of flame fronts back through lines and piping configurations, and between combustion units and tanks. This is also known as "flashback". When correctly installed, the devices will extinguish flame fronts traveling from either direction.
